This is a Windsor or stick chair I made out of construction 2×4s and a little walnut. I built it as a prototype for a chair I want to build out of walnut. I had a walnut tree fall down on a patch of land I have and I cut it and split it last winter and I want to use that to build a rustic Welsh stick chair using my own design.

I have built a traditional Windsor with Mike Dunbar so I am familiar with the techniques of building a chair. So I took a couple of ideas I liked and made this chair. It is not perfect but it isn’t supposed to be. I do like having facets from the draw-knife show and not have that turned smooth look. So hopefully by March I will post a much better designed and crafted chair made of Walnut from my land.

I have to acknowledge fellow LJ Yorkshire Stewart for the inspiration to use 2×4 for a Windsor chair. Check out the chair he made from a single pine 2×4. http://lumberjocks.com/projects/4473

Henry,

Who says quality furniture has to be expensive?! The 2×4s make an amazingly good-looking piece of furniture. Can’t wait to see your walnut version.

What a lovely chair; I do like this style.
Thanks for the mention Henry; I’m so pleased to have inspired you with my chair. Is it really almost five years since I made it?

Great start! I have a funny feeling that we are pretty closee to eachother. I live about 2 miles down K of P Rd. from the high school.

Did you make the follow-up walnut chair Henry?
