this was a request from my wife, she wanted a shelf she could hang in the bathroom and put all her nail polish. We have three girls and the nail polish is utilized on a frequent basis. It is out of ash, 1 1/2” wide 1/2” thick, it did kinda bring a tear to my eye when she told me she wanted it painted.

Fine job, and if that is what the customer wants, then I suppose it’s OK to break out the paint…....... maybe…...

Here’s an idea for the next time – when you hear the “P” word, slap a coat of spray lacquer on it and say that it is too late to paint it as it wouldn’t adhere to the lacquer. ;-)

Nice project!

I would have done that had I had any idea it was coming, but no I was blindsided. I was showing it to her and literally getting ready to tell her about the finish I was going to utilize and bam it happened.

Don’t feel too bad – it’s happened to the best of us.

You will feel better in the near future….... You might need some counseling, but you WILL feel better!

I think there’s a 12 step program for this. ;-)

That is great Jacob! There is enough polish there to paint each finger and each toe a different color… TWICE!

Maybe you could suggest doing that. ha ha

In about 5 years, your wife may want a different color and then you get to paint it again OR you can strip it down to the bare wood and THEN you can put a clearcoat on it. Patience. ha ha

Well, when a girl asks for furniture, if it’s not a jewelry box, make it out of plywood or MDF and give her the oportunity to paint it! At least that’s what I’ve learned with my significant other ;)
Nice shelf despite the ugly green color :)

Looks good.
I usually use poplar or soft maple for painted projects (which are fine in woodworking! Don’t let others try to convince you otherwise!).

As long as the ladies love it everyone wins. :)
