Well, I took a long time to finish this project, but it is finally done. This project was my very first foray into the world of veneering. I finally broke down and bought a vacuum press, and my first time veneering was a 5 foot by five foot piece of baltic birch! Not exactly easing myself in, but it was a fun challenge. The base is solid walnut and the table is 66 inches in diameter. I made 6 dining room chairs even though four are pictured. The table can comfortably seat eight adults. There were many woodworking challenges on this project but the curved circular solid wood apron was the toughest, I’d have to say. I got the inspiration for the project from a picture of a similar table made by Paul Downs.
Hope you like it and all feedback, comments and critiques are welcome!
Jeff

Wow, that is a remarkable piece of work. The tabletop is great looking with the veneer, the detail of the table base is outstanding as are the chairs. Great craftsmanship.

Great first veneering job Jeff. Be careful it can really be addictive.
Veneering aside, this is a lovely set.
Congrats on a really nice bit of work.

Stunning set. Here’s my question….why didn’t you take a close-up pic of the top of the table?
We are all waiting to drool over it!

The craftsmanship in the table base/legs and chairs is awesome. The veneered top is one of the most beautiful pieces I have ever seen. I too would love a full on pic of that tabletop. You did an amazing job on the whole set!
