Joe
Love how you made the groves into the Black walnut bowl. It looks pretty close to the pith on the sides, how did you keep it from splitting?
What kind if finish did you use and how did you finish the bottom off

got lucky on the thing not cracking. i have sever coats of minwax wiping poly. I finish the bottom of my bowls by jamming between centers and turning the bottom mostly off down to a nub then use a chisel to remove that. id like to get some cole jaws or make a donut chuck sometime for turning the bottoms off but havent done it yet.

Nice bowl Joe. You might want to check into building a Longworth chuck. Not hard to make and they work well enough to finish the bottoms.

Great looking bowl Joe. I’d be honored if I ended up with your bowl.

Nice piece. I like the heartwood / sapwood color mix.
