Carving Tiger heads is what I started doing in wood. First one was to prove a point to a carver who didn’t a believe in working in 2D or combining various various skills to his carvings. I’ve always admired Tigers and watched them for hours in Zoo’s and wildlife parks. I found getting the eyes right was the first aim of the
ptoject and work around them. Anyway I proved my point to him, had to by a wood burning machine, had never used on before but improved as I went along. I have now carved dozens of Tigers, using Elm Burls as a background. With luck a local football team has the Tiger as it’s mascot and I had a good market’
These three are some of the later ones, have experimented with using some paint. The wood used for the actual Tiger is radiata pine. I find I can finish a Tiger Head in a couple of hours, full bady ones a bit longer.

Those would be a big hit here in southern Louisiana where the Louisiana State University “Tigers” rule.
