“Dogwood 1” Circa 2008
Heavily Spalted and decayed dogwood found on side of the road in Decatur, GA.
Approx 6” in diameter.
tung oil and carnuba wax finish.
Spalted dogwood is among my favorite to work with. This one was decayed to the point of having to use wood on some of the softer bits.

I had to resaw some dogwood once, some of the hardest wood I have ever cut in 35 years!
Spalted might make it more reasonable to deal with.

Definitly hart to cut with a saw…wonderful to turn with. Fresh clean Dogwood is translucent below 3/16th” or so! Plan to make a dogwood lampshade soon as I can find a healthy tree thats been cut down or broken!

Beautiful. I like the design of it too.
