Ammunition Box

I haven’t posted in a while. This is one of my recent projects. I guess the rules for exposed ammunition at some gun clubs are weird. A recent customer who shoots at the local gun club requested a box to hold 60 rounds of ammunition but he could only have 5 bullets accessible at a time. The box had to be closed when he was shooting and only the 5 bullets could be visible. The additional 5 storage compartments are for the empty cartridges. The rule seems quite silly to me but I’m just a woodworker so what do I know!!
The box is made of quilted maple, Honduras mahogany and bubinga.

Beautiful box and creativity, especially with ALL the restrictions.

Really beautiful box. However the customer wants it.

That’s a beautiful box. I’m sure your customer will be proud to sit it on the bench beside his rifle. He’s going to have a hard time finding a rifle that looks as good as his ammo box. I’m impressed.

Great choice of woods and outstanding design. Your customer will be the hit of his gun club, and hopefully a source of referrals. Thanks for sharing.

It’s a beautiful box. The corners and the splines really set it off. There are so many details that add to the overall appearance. Well Done!

How many hours do you have invested in that ammo box?

That thing is stunning. I love quilted maple, and you made the most of it. The offsetting colors only add to the beauty. And I love the brass accents. Just a crazy good job. Really well done.

I really like the look of this box, especially how everything hinges and fits together. How difficult is it working the quilted maple? Seems like it would tear out easily while planing, but the result is obviously worth the work. Nice job.

That is one very nice box! I especially like the tip out holders near the bottom. Some of the regulations that the club has to abide by are kind of goofy, but that’s the society we live in right now. As some of the others have said already, this box looks nice and still meets regulations. Well done.

The insurance companys come up with these seemingly stupid rules. my Wifemate used to (before retiring) work for a company that administered the NRA insurance. These clubs and gun owners have few choices when buying insurance, so what they (insurance co’s) want they pretty much get … and alot dosn’t always make sense.

Great box, I really like the corner treatment, It just makes the whole thing really POP … pun intended.

That ammo box is BEAUTIFUL, but what caliber is it designed for?

The rules are probably due to the type of shooting he does. Those rules make me think he is a silhouette shooter, each round you are only allowed to have 5 rounds available at your shooting station.
