I had a scrub oak come tree down in the hurricane that hit Long Island NY last year and I’ve been turning chunks of it a lot this summer. This is from a branch that had been laying on the ground. I didn’t realize how nicely it had spalted until I turned the bark off to make this box, which is my first attempt for a turned box. If I had known how nice the wood would look i would have practiced on another chunk of firewood, but this looked like a throw-away when I started.
Anyway, thanks for looking

Isn’t it amazing what wood is available for projects. It always seems such a waste when the tree trimmers are just grinding it up. Great job and a nice looking piece.
