My father has done some amazing marquetry and I, being the loving and devoted daughter that I am, ALLOWED him to teach me.

We took a field trip to Rocklers for a demonstration and I was able to create this marquetry rose in approximately 3 hours while customers came to watch and ask questions to the more experienced marquetry craftsmen. I’m pleased to say that I impressed a lot of people when they found out it was the first time I’d ever done marquetry before. I’m glad I was able to demonstrate how easy it is to learn!

I decided to use the rose as a hand mirror for a couple reasons: I don’t HAVE a hand mirror and I would like one and also because my 3 year old daughter really likes “Beauty and the Beast” and I thought she would enjoy a mirror with a rose on it.

Thanks for letting me share this as my first project! I learned a lot by making this mirror and I’m so excited to share it.

Great first project Takara.
I have been biitten by the marquetry bug as well and have spent many very enjoyable hours at it.

I know the feeling of interesting others with a demo as well. It’s fun to watch their interest as they begin to “get it”.

Thanks for sharing …............and maybe you could show us some of your dad’s work too???

Wow, that looks really great.

I have not tried any marquetry yet. But that mirror looks like a good thing to start on. Thanks for the inspiration.

Beautiful job on your mirror. Sure doesn’t look like its a first project. You really must have inherited the talent and the patience! Have not yet tried marquetry, I’m not sure I have the patience for it.
Welcome to LJ’s, you’ll like this site for all of the ideas and help, if you need it. Can’t wait to see the next project.
