Hi everyone this is my first post here, first of many more I hope.

Wooden name for my nephew james, cut out of a plank of pine with a jigsaw (the only tool power tool in my possesion) , then i hand finished it with rasps, files and various grades of paper. To color it I just rubbed in ordinary acrylic paint, but not too much, I like to still see the wood grain underneath. I used a chisel to cut a notch to seperate the letters.

Finishing this piece took a huge amount of time especially as the jigsaw had some problems with the acute curves. I had to rasp them all back into shape. I’ve ordered some new tools , lets hope they arrive soon!

p.s i forgot to add the dimensions, length is about 60 cm height 22 cm and thickness is 2.2 cm

Welcome to lumberjocks Robert,

That is a beautiful sign and a great post. I have a great niece I’d like to make one for.

As you may have noticed, the woodworking geeks, me for instance, love the details about the wood species, finishing techniques, tools used – all the nitty gritty.

I hope to see more of your work.

Welcome to LJ Robert. I like the name sign….but what makes it special is that you made it nearly by hand (only one power tool)...wait until you have more tools
