Looked hard to find music box mechanisms that have an on/off lever, so the music will start when the box is opened. Found relatively nice ones at Klockit.com – each plays one of 4 different tunes @ about $8.00 per unit.
Installing the mechanism was relatively easy, but connecting the lever to the dowel in the side of the box was pretty tricky. I found out later that Klockit sells dowels that are grooved especially for their mechanisms.

Made out of Cedar, which turns a very cool color when Poly is applied and Maple trim. Box for the mechanism has a top held on by magnets. Store bought small brass feet to raise the bottom high enough for the wind-up key. Red flocking. Divided tray which is red flocked also. 10 X 6 X 4.

Very nice music box US, I also find that when I put a single coat of tung Oil it also gives my cedar boxes a very nice look.

One thing that I am struggling with and still new to me is hinged lids, I’m going to try and follow Big Al’s blog on how to install the piano hinges, so far I’ve been using the small hinges, your method and I’m not winning. LOL

Once again you displayed the grain beautifully. Really nice looking.

Nice work. I have had thoughts of adding a music mechanism to a box. thanks for the inspiration. I recently tried Shellac to try to keep the Color of Cedar more natural. Your one coat of tung oil looks good though.

-- Robert, so much inspiration here, and so little time!
