I made this box for a friend of mine. It’s made out of canary wood with birds eye trim. With quite a few coats of clear, sanding between coats, I was able to achieve this very glossy finish which shows the grain very well. I selected a navy velvet material to line the box with which, I belive, gave it a nice look. I’m very pleased with the results and my choices of wood and finish. Thanks for looking.

I would have gone with something darker for the trim, but the way you used the lighter birdseye for the trim, opens up some possibilities for me. Good work!
Did you consider using canarywood for the tray?

I like the way the trim ‘frames’ the top and sides. Neat design.

Pat,

What type of finish did you apply to this? You mentioned clear, but it wasn’t “clear” what type of finish it was. :) I am guessing shellac?
