My Second Box

This is my second completed box.

It was designed for the hinges that were used. A friend was at my shop and liked the hinges and asked my for a small box with them on it. I argued that they were to big for that size box, but she wants what she wants.

It is Maple with the lid having a live edge. There are also Purpleheart accents on the sides. I had intentions of grinding it further (that is why the wood is so thick), but stopped when I liked it. (Maybe out of fear of ruining it?)

It is lined with black velvet. I took a picture of the tray insert before covering it with velvet because I don’t have a flash.

I know it is not of the caliber of most of the boxes I see on here, but it is amazing how much I learned just from the first box. I look forward to improving with each box.

I welcome your comments. Thanks for looking!

I for one can say, it’s not just where you started or where you are now. It’s if you learned from the first two and improve as you go. I am 10 times better than I was, but only half as good as I need to be. You’ve improved from your first one. There are lots of great box makers on this site and all of them have been ultra pleasant answering my questions. I am sure they’ll do the same for you.

In my very humble opion….if the person that requested it was happy with it, it’s perfection. And, no matter how long you build boxes, you are going to keep learning. Nice work
