I handcrafted this men’s valet box from spalted ash, wrapped around alder, the ash, was still in log form when I picked it up from curb side waiting for land fill then I stuck in my spalting pile for around a year. This valet box has both traditional mitered corners wrapped around a bandsaw box (alder) which creates a new hybrid of a box, it has two large drawers with one hidden drawer and a false bottom or hidden compartment on top which is opened way by way of a wooden key using rare earth magnets. It measures 10 1/2” x 5” x 6”

I really like your concept and execution.

OK, so there is a washer on the inside of the lid and the “key” has the magnet??
Or do you slide a pin with the “key”

Another winner! I like the hybrid design. Not sure I can cut corners that square with the bandsaw. The secret drawers and compartments are a nice touch.

Andy, I use my dewalt miter saw for the miter corners, it’s not entirely all bandsaw. :)

Randy, I was talking about the corners of the bandsaw box which has to fit perfectly inside the mitered corners of the outer box. Or do I have the entire design confused in my feeble mind? My miter saw sucks so bad that I would be better off cutting my miters with a hatchet! I cut all mine on the TS.

Randy

Well done. You could do away with the glued handles and rely solely upon the magnetic connection?
