The wife wanted to spend 3-4 hundred buck on a simple desk from pier one. I convinced her I could make a better one and be finished by the end of August, when the kids start school. Well I missed the deadline by a couple weeks, but The project turned out great.
The base cabinets are oak 3/4 plywood stained with minwax ebony. 2 coats. and put together with mostly pocket screws.
The top is walnut plywood with walnut veneer edgeing. A friend cut that out for me on a cnc mahine. It was two parts with a seem going down the middle.

I hate IKEA, Pier 1, and all those other mass-manufactured furniture stores. Kudos to you for making something for your wife instead of buying cheap particle board furniture.
