The latest ‘Balancing Act” challenge got me thinking of a project I did about 8 months ago which is a mechanical toy crocodile that spits out marbles that were loaded in the back of its head. The principle is that the jaw keeps opening and closing when the marble drops through the hole in its mouth to the trough-like base. The bird in the back acting as a counter weight, brings back in position to release anothe marble. Its too brilliant an invention to be my own, but I’m sure it has ancient origins. It was a real challenge, and great fun to make and play around with. Here is a link to the youtube demo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcaE9nIQhlQ
Thanks for looking.

Oh, this is totally adorable! My niece is about to have a 3rd birthday – I can see her playing with this for hours.
Yes, the balancing does seem to be the key here and you got that down perfectly – the timing in the video is just right.

Thanks for the kind words.. That was not an easy thing for me, making the demo, that is. Glad it turned out OK.
Funny, the Croc was one of the few things I regret selling , so I might make another for myself.

Bob, Love your Croc! Great job on the video too. You should consider making one to keep and another to sell. Maybe even do a line of marble losing critters. Especially with the holidays fast approaching. Nice job!
