This was one of the first projects I made when I got my new Axminster Bandsaw. I’d googled “Bandsaw projects” and was put onto the excellent Stevin Marin WWMM youtube video that showed me how to make bandsaw boxes (a term that I’d never heard up until that point).

I made one for my wife which was subsequently posted onto Facebook. My sister in law who had one year old twins asked for two with the initials of the kids on them which prompted the idea to make these boxes.

Very pleased with the results given I was a relative newbie at bandsaw work. Only problem I have is that the thinnest blade my axminster will take is a 1/4inch blade but I managed to get through by “going really slow”.

They took a while to make and I wouldn’t consider churning out too many of them, too fiddly but they went down a storm at the twins 2nd birthday party.

You’ll see from the pictures that there’s no finish on them which is probably a big no no. I’m still a very uneducated novice when it comes to finishes. Bought some tung oil and some water based varnish but still learning how to apply for a good professional finish so thought it best to leave them ‘unfinished’ rather than ruin them.

Let me know what you think of them – this is my first project post on Lumberjocks!

Good looking bandsaw boxes…I especially like the little handles and the initials. Well done.

Welcome to Lumberjocks! For sure you’ll have fun with great folks hanging around. Check out everyone’s projects. BTW, you’ve got a nice band saw box there! Cute.

for a good simple finish, try wiping on mineral oil. over on this side of the pond you can find it at the pharmacy in the laxative section.

Those turned out very nice. I love the pacifier handles. As far as finishes go, a wipe on is as foolproof as you can get and works well on curves, and areas that would be hard to brush or spray. Welcome to a great group.

Great Job. You’re on your way to being a band saw master!
