This is the brother of yesterday’s Bonfire post. After we’d finalised Bonfire I realised that with slight modification it could be the realisation of a box idea I’d had for a while now. This represents a virtual 3D image of the accretion disk around a rotating black hole. Matter gets sucked in, never to be seen again. This time the lines on the sides all rotate one way to aid the image. In fact all the sides for both boxes were re-sawn out of the same block. The last pic shows the two, together. Size and materials are the same as for Bonfire except for black dyed birch for the centre. Thanks for the inspiration Ross. This has helped me to realise a long held idea.

Very cool! I prefer this one to Bonfire, but both are of course excellent boxes.

Before I even read the other comments I was thinking “I like this one much more.”. Very well done, both of you.

I like this one better. The matching stipes on the sides and the black “sun burst” give it the extra wow.

They are both really nice.

They are both beautiful, but I think I do like this one better. I love the dark center and the implied rotation of the sides. Another winner! :)
