I saw a post about the magic coin bank and I loved it.. I thought it would be perfect for my nephew and it looked fun to build.

The only thing was my nephew was young and I was afraid he would get upset when the money disappeared and he could not retrieve it! So I added a little magnetic draw on the side so he could retrieve the coins whenever he wanted.

I like the way it came out. I used Cedar for the draw mechanism, oak for the box and walnut for the top and bottom. Then spray lacquer..

Very cool.
Perhaps though it might have been a good life lesson for your nephew – that this is the way it is – money just disappears.

Maybe you could come up with one where you put a dollar in and get a quarter back.
Kinda like poke and change. :^)

I like crank49’s idea. It would be teaching the child about taxes!

Very nice work! Great looking bank and a good idea having it so you can get the coin’s back. I made one also with a twist. I made my bank talk when you put a coin in it. I used the same mechanism as the greeting cards use. You can also change the message. You can find it in my projects.
Again! nice work!

It’s a nice design and you did a fine job on it.
