A Grooming box.
Now not to miss lead you this isn’t my first grooming box. Its my second, I completed the first for the same person and they wanted a travel size version of the the 48” one I made the week before. So I assume I did a good job and got myself a repeat customer.
As you can see its a simple concept, and it happens to be my first commission. And the best part is that I wasn’t looking for one, and I certainly didn’t think it would be horse grooming storage cabinet. And naturally never having much to do with horse’s I had no idea what I was being commissioned to do at first.
So armed with a picture and after talking to the client, I drafted something up in sketchup and forwarded off a print screen of the design and after a thumbs up I was off to the races. pardon the pun :D
My general design was easy with the photos that i had, the only real thinking I had to do was on the joinery. I decided on full rabbets on all sides, I think glued and nailed the rabbet with the thought that this should be sturdy based on the use and environment that it was going to be in. As for the little shelf your looking at I dado’ed some recesses for it. As well using a stripe of Jatoba as a spline for the verticle and horizontal piece on the shelf. I threw in a little tote as well for customer out of the scrap that I had as a bonus.
The finish is a poly wipe on varnish, 5 coats scuffed sanded with 400P, then rubbed out with wax paste and 000 fine steel wool.
any tips are welcome always looking to grow, and thanks for taking a look.
