My wife got me a lathe for Christmas last year so I’ve been trying to learn some new skills. We manage to consume a fair amount of ice cream around my house, so when I saw the ice cream scoop kits at Rockler, it just seemed like I ought to have a couple.
These were made of scraps and offcuts that I just never had the heart to throw away. The wood is a mixture of oak, mahogany, maple, alder, and cherry. Finished with a couple coats of shellac to highlight the grain and then sealed with a few coats of sprayed waterborne polyurethane.
I’ve got a few more in the works that I hope to package with some home-made chocolate fudge sauce and hand them out for Christmas this year.

These will be a fabulous gift – useful and beautiful. I mean, what is more festive than ice cream and hot fudge! I am going to be angling to get on your gift list :-)

Arlin- I picked some up when they had them on sale for 8. That’s the lowest I’ve seen them go.

They came out really nice and I like the effect of the lamination! Keep up the great work.
