Wood is amboyna burl cut from a block I got out of the barrel-o-burls at my local Rockler. Hardware is the David Broadwell Nouveau Sceptre Rhodium & 22kt Gold Rollerball Pen Kit from Penn State.

After turning to shape I sanded to 12000, applied 2 coats of mineral oil & CA, resanded to 12000 then 2 coats each of Hut PPP satin & gloss.

I am really psyched at how this came out. I made it as a going away gift for our VP of engineering, and it was more than a little nerve wracking trying out a new finishing technique, but it exceeded my expectations.

Beautiful pen! I hadn’t heard of this finish application, but it certainly looks great! How was the kit to work with?

That finish worked out great! It is a beautiful pen that I’m sure will be cherished!
