This box won a Blue Ribbon at our local county fair this year. The box has beautiful figured grain lid (my photography is still an area that needs work.) It has mitered joints with dovetail keys, I used Liquid Hide Glue through out the construction. I was very please with the glue, great initial tack and seems to hold very well. It also does not telegraph through the finish is you happen to miss a spot.
The finish is basicly the same as the last box, base coat of Danish Oil to bring out the grain and figure of the wood, followed with amber shellac to provide a bit more tone and gloss. On this box, I also finished out with a light coat of wax to lower the sheen just a touch and smooth the touch.
I used solid brass stopped hinges. the lid opens to about 100 deg.
The bottom and the trays are lined with black velvet to add a bit more richness, I tried a tan microfiber but it didn’t look as nice.
