Great design. I really like it. I have a bunch of fir that I had slabbed and is actually wide enough for something like this. I was wondering what to do with it! Can you provide some dimensions and will maple still grey over time with spar urethane on it? Keep ‘em coming!

Hi Ted,

You did a good job with this bench. I really like rustic pieces like this.

Thanks for the post.

Thats a great looking bench! I went to your web site and your music is as good as your woodworking. I will try to order your CD here in future. I really enjoyed your music. You guys should check it out!

Hi All & thanks for your feedback! & for mick The front of the bench is 16” from the floor & falls tward the back at about a 10 degree angle then the back is opened about another 10 degees off of what would be square. I had several patterns that I used, & they all got burned up in the fire. I am still adjusting the new pattern. Thanks again to all, Ted.

I am adding this one to my favorites! We need a couple of benches outdoors. If my wife likes your idea, I may try something similiar! Thanks!

For Benches that I know are going to be outdoors I take a treated piece of 2X & make a foot for the bottom of each support. Sanding off the ends to match the live edges. It looks cool & is a great selling point. I’m working on a custom farm table & a couple of backless benches…. & always more stobles (LOL) or what ever you call them. Thanks again for all your compliments!!!, All a yall.
As for my music, Thanks Joey. I used to be more serious about it, But up here in PA theres not much demand for Texas music. I do go back home to TX several times a yr & jam with all my old buddies.
Ted.

I use 3 coats on the total piece & then 2 or 3 more on the contact areas.

Thanks for the dimensions/angles. I checked out your website (really nice!). I do some similar type items, but not chainsaw carvings. I have been looking for a good pattern for a bench and this one is great! Would you mind if I use it? I work with slabbed pine and poplar (local stuff) but mostly make log furniture. Base on your website we’re a couple hundred miles apart in PA – I’m in Lancaster County.

I love this bench!!!, This is exactly the way I would like to have the INSIDE of my house! I have always wanted to try this kind of item to make.
This is awesome. I have a book by Daniel Mack called Making Rustic Furniture that is just full of all sorts of incredible items such as your bench. I personally recommend it to anybody that will listen. The pictures in it are truly inspirational!
PEACE!!!

Now that is my kind of bench, love the way you cut the backrests and supports. I want to try something like this with Spalted Pecan or Bull Cedar….Great Work
