Had some scrap pieces to get rid of, so I made this small chest. The bottom is solid cherry, the top ribs are cherry & the top boards are black walnut. Handles are carved w/ finger holds and glue to the sides. The leather straps came from and old horse bridle I was given & I cut them to size and worked in some mink oil to preserve the leather. Then I used black hand hammered carpet tacks to secure them. I made three more like this one but the others have small rope handles. I burned the outside with propane, then used old motor oil for stain to get the old “black” look.

Great rustic look. I like it enough to build one. The color is awesome! Great work and great idea! Thanks for posting.

Best,
