I haven’t posted in a while…working outta town. I have been home this past week so I took advantage of a little shop time. Actually I was smoking a brisket and started it Saturday, so I had plenty of time and decided to do something in the shop. I saw a posting about a tissue box and decided to do one for the wife. The box is made for cypress, the top is cocobolo. The leaves are cypress and wenge. I had just a basic idea of what I wanted to do, but the actual design was done on the fly. The leaves are the first ones I have attempted and will do more in the future. I could have made the grain of the box horizontal, but it would have looked stubby. The vertical lines give it some height. The first picture is of the tissue box…the second is of the leaf…and third is of details of the banding on the top and bottom of the box. I haven’t put a finish on it, but I think it will be a lacquer finish.
Man…it was nice to be in the shop again!

(I would live in my woodshop if I could.) That is a cool box. I would seal it with a gloss finish to make it easier to dust though. After a few tissues, the top would be covered with micro tissue fallout. But overall an excellent piece.

This is great! Lots of tissue boxes popping up on LJs lately, must be allergy season. I love the style of this one.

Vjer,
This is a nice box. I like the cocobolo and cypress contrast.
You did a nice job with this box.
