Made a few plane hammers for gifts for some friends. I had a machinist friend make the brass heads for me and I turned the handles from a few different sticks I had laying around: The handles are curly maple, walnut burl, curly ash, Brazilian rosewood!!, ash and cherry. The wooden hammer tips are threaded on and are made from desert iron wood.

I needed only a few but my machinist made me a dozen, not sure what I am going to do with that many hammers…

This was a fun project and each one has little subtleties which make it unique.

These look really neat and practical. I could use one myself. I’m sure that local LJ’s will take them off your hands (for a small fee?).

Very nice. I second on taking one off your hands. If you want to de-clutter, just PM me.

What is the diameter of the brass? I think I will make one like this. I have some 9/16” brass rod in the shop. Seems like 3/4” would be better though.

These are 5/8” diameter brass rod, that’s plenty for a plane hammer. Good luck!
