I finally found my data cable to my camera. So I figured I would start posting some of my projects. This is my first project post… Anyway about the desk,
My fiancé is going to school for her master’s degree and the desk she was using was embarrassing. It was falling apart, the paper thin veneer was worn through and it felt like it was about the collapse when you looked at it the wrong way. I decided to build her this desk for Christmas (2011).
The entire desk is cherry (minus the aluminum accents). The top is cherry plywood (2’x5’) and the rest is solid cherry. I finished it with satin poly. The desk looks even better after a few months of sun; it has really started to get the beautiful cherry color that I love.
The apron is mitered along the sides and reinforced with biscuits. The apron is attached to the table with a spline traveling all around the table. Both of the bottom rails are secured with mortise and tennon jointery. I used 2”x1” aluminum pipe, brushed it with scotch brite then sprayed a coat of clear on them. The giant drawer is 30×18x4, the face is matched from the apron.
Overall everything seemed to go well, although trying to hide a desk in the garage each night I finished working on it was more than fun!

That must have taken a whole load of wrapping paper!
That’s a great desk, keep the projects coming.
