This is my first experience using dyed veneers and I’m generally pleased with the results – nice contrast between the cover’s checker pattern and the base of the box. The maple box is approximately 4.5” by 4.5” with a height of 3.75” finished with a few coats of shellac and wax.

I tend to agree with you, Roger, dyed veneer is better than I first thought before I used it. This is a neat little box with a good top/body contrast.
