Since I have been mostly writing in my Blog Section ,I thought I’d get started here in the project side with a ‘short step up’ to one of my weekend projects.
The LOML decided on a new mattress for our bedroom and of course I leave most of the furnishing decisions up to her ( She does Have Good Taste ) .
Well she came home saying she bought us a very nice mattress but ( Here It Comes ), You’ll have to build something for me. Come to find out she purchased a box spring and mattress that when installed on the bed frame , stood taller than she was able to reach so we spent the weekend constructing this little step stool to make things an even keel.
Made of Oak and finished in a light oak stain and top coated in Lacquer it proved to be just the right height and solid enough not to scoot around when stepped on.

Hi Smitty,

This is a nice stool and it serves a very useful purpose. You did a good job with the stain and finish.

Thanks for the post.

Hello Smitty, the Step look great, I like the design you used where the bottom one slides under the top, nice touch. Also don’t you just love the look of oak when its finished. Keep the projects coming.

Thanks for the comments everyone! GMMan, your correct about the plan, I forgot to add that in my description. It’s one that was featured years ago in Woodsmith Magazine. The lower step slides into and under the top with a hand hold cutout on the top step so it’s easily carried from one place to another if needed.
Have a Good One,
Smitty

That must be some bed. The stool is a keeper too. I also love that oaky look. I don’t know much about period furniture, but it looks a little arts and crafts to me. Nice.

I like the design where the lower step slides into the main body. Very nicely done.
