Shooting board from scraps

Here is a shooting board I made last night. It is made from 2 pieces of 3/4” scrap MDF and a piece of 1/2” plywood. This is kind a test run to see how often I’ll use it as well as how it holds up. I played with it a little bit and it works pretty well so far. Does anyone have any input on this, if the MDF will hold up or maybe better lumber to make it out of? Also the size is 13” x 18”(to the stop), is that a good size? Thanks for looking.

Cool. I have a short plane but i want to try this. Maybe i can add a strip or two of masking tape to the lower edge of the plane surface for and aft of the blade so that it doesn’t dig into the shooting board?

Ben79, That is not unnecessary. The small edge from the mouth to the side will keep the boards square as long as you do not use some sorta carriage makers plane(blade extends the full width of the plane).

Have your say...
