My Dad, the hardest working man I have ever known, finally gets to retire this Friday. I made this clock for him out of some 100+ year old oak from my grandfather in-laws barn. I am giving it to him on Friday and he does not know I made it yet. He is on LJ about as much as I am so I thought it would be fun for him to see it for the first time here.

Let’s just hope he’s not following your posts. Anyways, this is a very nice retirement gift for your dad. I wonder what made you think of a clock as a gift for him? Is there a message behind it that you want to relay?

That is an excellent clock, I’m sure he will be pleased with the gift and surprised at the announcement.

Very very nice. I’m sure he’ll like it immensely.
I do hope that you signed it in some fashion. My wife and kids gave me an electric branding iron with the year accessory. When I make a gift or a commissioned piece it gets branded with my name as well as the year. When I make something just to sell, it gets my name only.

I’m jealous! I didn’t get something heartfelt like this when I retired.
I know your dad will enjoy it – it’s beautiful.

I love the rugged simplicity of it. It’s beautiful.

Very nice. Not only is it a great retirement gift, but the fact that his son crafted it for him is the wonderful part.
