Yes it is walnut. The last one I did in butternet and I wanted this to be different. They are for a father (passed on) and son (still with us), and I wanted to tell them apart in the future. When I presented my buddy with the 1st one for his father, I told him I was making one for him, but he must promise not to use it right away.
