Here is a marking gauge I made a while back. Nothing fancy, just functional. The fence is made from walnut from the scrap bin. I got the dowel, threaded insert and thumb screw from the big box store. The blade is an old jig saw blade. I ground the teeth off and then rounded the cutting edge and sharpened it on my grinder and honed it with some sand paper by hand. No finish.

Nice marking gauge, shop made tools are fun to make as well.
