Just finished building a wood lathe using the head my mentor donated to me. Some old turning tools were also donated and this roughing gouge had a “file” handle that had put on at some time. Well, obviously that tiny handle had to go. So it became clear to me after much thought (10 seconds) that my first turning project on my new lathe should be a handle for my roughing gouge. I have a lot to learn about turning.

I like it, Stormy! I always thought my roughing gouge had too much blade and too little handle. I think I prefer the length of yours. Really nice.

I’m going to copy this for my next gouge. I just posted a 1 1/2 in carving gouge I made from an old Farriers rasp. This is just the combo I need, thanks for posting.
