Over the weekend I turned a number of pens. I need to assemble the rest but this one needed to get assembled in order to be mailed off.
My Grandfather will turn 91 this next week. I have mentioned him in a few of my other posts, he is most certainly the person that I get my love of woodworking from. He was and still is a Jack of All Trades ( I am just recently finding out how much I really have learned from him helping him over the years). He retired as a machinist and loves the fact that I have my own lathe and am learning to use it better. I am hoping he likes the pen.
The third pic here is of my daughter and him from a year or two ago. They share a birthday so last year we made sure they were together (her 5th and his 90th).
As to the pen itself it is again turned from wood from my park. Most of the wood is rather light in color so I have been trying to come up with ways to give it some character. On this most recent batch of pens I decided to try some burning. This one is lightly done, I will be posting the rest of the pens by the end of the weekend and go over more of what I did to them. The kit is Fancy Gun Metal from Woodturners Catalog.
Thanks all for looking.
