This is my first attempt at an end grain cutting board. I’ve seen a lot of really cool ones here and I’ve wanted to try one for a while. I have to give credit and thanks to my good neighbor and friend Junior for the use of some of his equipment and a helping hand. I also give credit and thanks to jayman7 for the CBdesigner http://lumberjocks.com/projects/11372 , which I used in the design phase. It was fun and I learned a lot doing it. There are plenty of mistakes here (hence the little board made from scrap). But, I know how to do much better on the next one. The wood is maple and mahogany. I wanted mahogany for the color, but didn’t realize how soft it is. I don’t plan to use it again. I am somewhat disappointed you have to be a bit of a distance to get the illusion effect. Overall, I think it turned out ok.

Awesome board. I love the optical illusion it gives off. Great work.

Nice design and good job.

Actually it is kind of nice that you have to back away to really see the effect. When you are up close, you have a knife in you hand.

Welcome to the addiction of cutting boards.

Thanks for all the comments! I was thinking today I could have called it “That 70’s Board”. I’ll definitely do more experimenting with these.
