Hand Carved Mangle-Board. I designed this and carved it in basswood, then finished it with a very very thin coat of shellac and a brown-mahogany gel stain, then 3 coats of gel urethane.

Nicely carved, but what, pray tell, is a mangle board ?

Mangle boards are basically an older version on the ironing board. Clothes would be pressed dry on a mangle board to avoid wrinkles. The fancier ones are decoration pieces, not really used on clothing, sort of how fancy cutting boards aren’t usually used, just displayed.

Thanks, Mike, for the info. I was wondering, too. And that’s some of the finest chip carving I’ve ever seen.

Yet again, another great carving. I never heard of a mangle board, I learn something new very day! Thanks for sharing it with us.
