Here is an English Walnut box turned on the lathe. The third photo is the same box just rotated 180 from the first photo. Pretty amazing the difference in the grain pattern from one side to the other. That is one of the reasons that I love wood so much, the hidden beauty in each piece!
One can tell the wood was spalting and it was brittle when turning it. There was a bit of tearout on the end grain inside the box and the lid.
I almost forgot to mention that it is finished with beeswax.
