We needed a ‘nook’ box for stuff on our dresser. This is the product of that.
I didnt design the box, the VA has a program that gives Vets hobby stuff and they usually have decent wood working stuff.. But, they keep it simple so all skill levels and able bodies can do them.
I thought about doing dovetails, but just stuck with the butt~joints.
I did the woodburning and colored it…
Any thoughts welcomed!

Nice box, I like the drawer design. Good job on the wood burning, very nicely done.

You are a lettering master for sure. Do you use templates or freehand, or what… You’re very impressive

Thanks everyone.
Roger, I wish I was a lettering master. I practice calligraphy~~and I through social networking, I know ‘master letterers’ (Master Penmen)~~~I am far from it….but, thank you nonetheless!
I wrote it out on a piece of paper and then when I got the spacing just about right, I did a line drawing onto the wood from my paper using graphite….and then ‘filled in’ the lines with the burner.
I hope that makes sense~

I too was impressed with the lettering, thinking it was laser cut until I zoomed the pictures. Great job. Don

Nice box. The woodburning is great. How did you color it?

Pdub~~I used Prismacolor Watercolor Pencils, and a couple of Derwent Watercolor Pencils. (Derwent has a ‘metallic’ line of watercolor pencils I like.) If you aren’t familiar with watercolor pencils, Youtube ‘PrismaColor Watercolor Pencils’. You can use them for a lot of things. I was able to manipulate the color….with water…and then I put Tung oil over that, and then sprayed with Lacquer.
Here is a link to another woodburning I did (birds again) where I used the watercolors.

If you Youtube the watercolors and want to try them…..THEY ARE EXPENSIVE ($20-45.00 a box, depending on amount of pencils) ~~~~SOOOOO…...get online and go to Hobby Lobby and get their 40% off one item coupon.~~~Don't look~~~your eyes will melt~~~
If you have a ‘smart phone’ you do not even need to print it out, you can just pull it up on your phone and show it to the clerk at checkout~~~~I have it booked marked in my phone.
I do not know if other ‘Michael’s ’ do it, but my local Michaels accepts Hobby Lobby’s coupons too….
It takes the $40 pencils to about 23.00~~~and they last….
Thank you for your service~~~I am retired Navy~
Thanks Don~

P.S.~~~If you arent familiar with the hobby lobby coupon, they update the 40% off coupon once every week….so make sure your date on the coupon is current…they throw a fit about it if it isnt….even if you can bring up the current one right there….if you have a smart phone..
