This was a commission piece to be given as a wedding present. I used figured cherry for the wood. I would usually hand cut dovetails, but this was an excuse to use my new Incra I-box. I was almost done, and I felt that the lid was lacking something, so I made the banding. I generally don’t like using brass hardware, but for this box, it really fit and I really like it.
After getting the glasses, I was able to fit everything in and I used 1/4 mdf to make dividers. Then I stole some fabric from my wife and used a hot glue gun and lined the inside of the box with the fabric.
The finish is BLO and paste wax. This is a piece that I wish I could see in a few years after the cherry has darkened. I was really happy with how it turned out, and so was my customer.
Thanks for looking.

That turned out beautifully. I’m not a fan of hardware either but the brass works well with the figured cherry and will look even better once the cherry darkens. The banding was just the perfect finishing touch.
