Here is a fun and easy project for ya! An authentic, one of a kind, super special and rare…mallet. If you haven’t yet check out Steve Ramsey’s mallet video inspired me to hit my scrap bin and pull out this project.

It’s made of purple heart, red oak, and walnut. It’s filled with a lead weight/sand mix to give it a “dead blow” effect. I designed mine a little different from his, but the concept was there. The handle is attached with a glued multiple-wedged tenon. The faces have an angle on them with one being covered with leather.

If you’re looking for a fun afternoon project I highly recommend giving one of these a try!

Without seeing its handle and title, I thought it was a beautiful jewelry box. Nicely made.

Thanks Steve. You featured some pics of my mallet on your website a few weeks ago after your vacation. Thanks for that as well! As you may see many of my projects are mere mortal inspired! I think on one of my other projects you can even see my “folding step-stool” in the background of the picture : )

Beautiful….and BIG…if the wrong guy knocks at the door, just pick up your mallet!
BTW, I am just up the road from you in Georgetown.

Wow, not sure if I could bring myself to hit anything with a mallet that pretty.
