“Elixir”
I designed and built this box for friend and fellow Lumber Jock Meilie http://lumberjocks.com/mmh as a thank you for coming to my aide with a custom cane to get me through some hip surgery. I will put a bit more about that in my blog “boxes and canes” in an upcoming post.
This box was an experiment on a couple of levels and I’m pleased with the results. Quilted maple front, back and lid with rock maple sides/legs. I textured the sides with a palm router. Pictures 3, 4 & 5 show a few steps during the build process.
High gloss lacquer and the red/black quilt give the piece an Asian flair.
Cheers

I’m an admirer of things Asian, and this one is nice.

I really like that. The maple is amazing, and I dig the design.

Extremely beautiful box! You did an amazing job finishing off that maple. I love the touch of texture on the sides also. Thanks for sharing!

OH MY GOODNESS! I am amazed at the incredible grain of the quilted maple and how you managed to make it DANCE with life! It is not only a work of art, but is has sentimental value that makes it even more precious. This will be cherished for many, many years! Thank you! THANK YOU!

That box will cut you…because MAN is it sharp! I don’t understand how the black/red worked; did you first stain it with ebony, sand it a bit, and then hit it with the red?
