So I get a call on Thursday morning that my grandaughter wants a wishing well for her birthday (on Saturday).
She said, “We tried to talk her out of it for the last week, but she really wants a wishing well. Oh by the way, her party is on Saturday Morning. Why would a 5 yr old girl want a wishing well? Its not for a grandpa to ask questions, just get busy in the shop, and more than a 2 day notice would be nice.
Results: A wishing well. Grandaughter says “Thanks Pa, now I don’t have to look at others peoples wishing well, I got my own”. When she looks into the well, I wonder what she is thinking or wishing about. The wonderful thing about working with wood is seeing the smile on a grandaughters face.

You did great Grandpa. I have two girls…one 23 and one 11…..all they have to do is say..Dadddyyyy….and I’m mush so totally understand. I’m sure it will be even worse when they have little ones of their own. You just can’t put a price tag on things like this…...enjoy those smiles..they grow up much too fast.
