Flute number 17 is a side-by-side double barrel Drone, key of G-Pentatonic Scale. It was started after #16 but finished first since #16 had so much hand scraping in the barrels. (Had to enlarge 3/4” cove to 1-1/16” by scraping on #16). This one is the better model I think. It is walnut on top, cherry on bottom. The gemstones denote winter/cold/north(white), blue skies/east(blue), green grass/south(green) and night darkness from the west(black). The walnut just screamed out for tung oil and the grain really “popped” after multiple coats. I like this model better than #16, it is a little easier to play and looks better too?? Maybe.

Hi Dennis,
This is an interesting piece. The gemstones give the flute visual interest and, visually, it looks better than the #16 in my humble opinion.
Thanks for the post.
