This is a candlebox. It is made from red oak and is made from plans designed by Charles Niel, his Colonial Candlebox. The dimensions are: 15 inches length, 5 1/2 inche wide, 5 inches high. The corners are joined with dovetails. The lid has been shaped to slide into a groove inside the box. It was designed as a gift for my sister who is will graduating from nursing school in three days. She is 49 years old and the mother of 7 children—What a great achievement.

I love the detail in the joints. I’ve learned to do mortise and tenons, but still struggle with dovetails.
Great piece!
