I wanted something small and functional that I could put in a little vestibule area in between our master bath and master bedroom. It was pretty much wasted space so I’m happy to have been able to turn it into something functional. The desk took only a couple hours to make using pocket holes and some biscuits and ended up priming it and finishing it all in one day. I made a small stand for the big 27” monitor that my laptop can slide under and cut a notch out on the side so I can still access the DVD drive. Less than $40 in materials to build. Could have spent much more time on it and given it more character but with a newborn at home, I would much rather spend time with her. I attached a surge protector on the underside of the top and some cord clips so all the wires are nice and concealed. Gives the whole setup a very clean look.

Very nice looking piece and very practical too. I am kind of obsessive myself about hiding wires and making things look neat, so I really like to see when others go that extra step to do the same.

I’ve been interested in making a standing desk for work, but something that will convert to a sitting desk when I’m tired. How tall is this? Any regrets or feedback on the height you chose?

Adam, it’s roughly 30.5” tall. It’s a very simple layout that fits nicely in our little vestibule area. I would have liked to have had it a little wider and deeper, but I was limited on space. Good luck in your build.

Have your say...
