I built this table several years ago. It’s made of purpleheart, maple legs, maple and spalted maple inlay, and ebony handles. The tricky part was matching the inlay on the sides to the top. I made a curved form from MDF and swung it over a pivot point in the center of the triangle. On the sides, I had to account for the bearing offset and eyeballed the angles to get the flow right. Haven’t done one like it since then.
I still have the piece, although I almost sold it a few times. I guess it’s all mine now. The purpleheart has aged nicely to a dark redish purplish brown. I made the points of the handles a little to sharp. They don’t feel too good when you jab your finger on them. Live and learn. See more at alancarterstudio.com.

Geeze . . . that is really different. I like the inlay.
What was your inspiration Alan?

I don’t really remember. Too much scotch maybe? I think I saw something in a museum, maybe a painting that had similar elements. Or maybe it really was Pink Floyd. I know I’ve hit the wall a few times.
Enough jokes, for now.
