I Had To Try This One

After my previous striped box, I thought how much better it would have looked if I showed the quartersawn edges of the sycamore so this box happened. QS sycamore/Jatoba for the sides and hinges,mahogany/sycamore for the lid. Dimensions:12×7x4”.Patron/Grizz wooden hinges. Finished with lacquer and Renissance wax. I was suprised how well the mahogany flooring matched the Jatoba.

Really nice job on this one. Love the way you did the hinges.

Pretty box.

The hinges. Ah yes, the hinges. Nice subtle contrast there.

what a very cool box, i love the work you did here, and i like the fact that you switched the woods on the hinges so that they were opposite…the top is very cool, two tones…...really nice andy…i think this will be in the top three really soon…....grizz

Thanks for all the kind words. That’s what keeps me in the shop. Heat? 118 outside,102 in the shop but quite pleasant out of the sun with the fans going. Grizz, the wood is flip/flopped on the hinges because I didn’t have a big enough piece to cut them out of otherwise but I like the ‘opposite’ look as well. I’m off to the World Champ Youth Show for 9 days so the shop will get a break.

Wow, nice box. It reminds me a lot of one I made last year. Only my dispensed frosty beverages.

Very kool Andy. I like the way you 2-toned the hinges as well. That’s a gr8 wood combo as well.
