Sculpted Table

My first attempt at this type of project. I ordered the DVD from Scott Morrison, and all I can say about that is.. if you are considering getting this, do it !! Great instructional dvd. The instructions for the table top calls for 3 – 8” boards, but I have a 6” jointer, so I used 4 – 6” boards. I spent a total of approx. 30 hours from picking through my lumber rack to applying the first coat of finish, but a lot of that was watching the dvd, making a router circle jig, building templates, watching the dvd, sanding, rasping, sanding, you get the picture. I have to admit, I think I am hooked on building sculpted projects. I have to make a mate for this one, and then am going to attempt a 42 inch top table for the kitchen. This is made from Cherry with a poly / oil wipe on – wipe off finish. Only one coat of many to go. This is my first attempt at any Maloof inspired projects, and I am no Scott Morrison or Paul Lemiski, (did I mention approx. 20 emails to Paul for advice) but I am happy with the results.

A few more of these and I will be ready to tackle that rocking chair..LOL

As always, comments & critique welcome.. Thanks for having a look

Really nice work! I think you are ready for the rocker as of now.

I hope mine turns out as good – when I get around to starting it. I have two Maloof lowback chairs under construction with Scott Morrisons’s instructions, and once they are done, the plan is to complement the set with this exact same table.

Critiques? I have none. That’s a wonderful looking table. I hope one day to give such a project a shot.
